ASHRAFUL AID CANADA

1

Day 1 – Lebanon

Lebanon aid mission debrief by Senior Volunteer Mohamed Jassat .

As Nelson Mandela aptly stated, “Education is the most Powerful weapon which you can use to change the world”

During our visit, we encountered teachers who embody selflessness and a strong passion for transforming the lives of children who have been thrust into the unfortunate turmoil of conflict without any fault of their own. Hearing their stories and comprehending the hurdles they face in providing fundamental education to youngsters who have lost everything, who reside in refugee camps, and who must traverse long distances just to learn basic mathematics and English, is deeply moving. Islamic Education is strongly emphasized as a major subject taught.

The dedication exhibited by both students and teachers, who persevere in cramped and poorly insulated mobile classrooms enduring temperatures of nearly 40 degrees Celsius during summer and sub-zero conditions in winter, is truly inspiring.

Some specifics about the school we visited include:
A total of 650 students attend the school.
– The school caters to illiterate children aged 5 to 13.
– In 2014, the school operated in a single tent with only one tablet available.
– In 2018, a containerized school was established.
– Nearly 3000 children have benefited from the schooling system since its inception.
– The school operates for 5 days a week and offers a curriculum that covers Math, English, Islamic education, and Quran studies.
– Education at the school is provided free of charge.
– The teaching staff is composed of Syrian refugees and Lebanese individuals.
– A total of 60 teachers work at the school, leading to 60 families achieving self-sufficiency.
– The school premises comprise 16 classrooms.

Recognizing that their income is Minimal the Ashraful Aid team has extended a compassionate hand by providing vital financial assistance to these dedicated and hardworking teachers. Recognizing that their income is minimal, we are truly honored to be able to help alleviate some of their financial burdens.
